Within the EUvsVirus Hackathon  we developed the Digital Stage: a low-latency videoconference service for music and performing arts ensembles.

Concerts, theatre and other performances are currently offered mainly in the form of recordings on the Internet. They hardly work live, because most offers on the Internet do not provide a real audio mix due to the intended data reduction. Useful solutions are usually expensive or/and require special hardware or requirements such as fiber optic connections.

We want to develop a possibility that allows larger music and theatre ensembles to rehearse via internet, distributed from home and with existing household technology, and to perform live on a digital stage together in front of an audience. In a later step, 3D audio and virtual reality formats are to be integrated.
