Loitering with Intent brings together Stockholm University of the Arts and the Society for Artistic Research to explore formats for sharing knowledge that emerges from artistic research practices.
Stockholm University of the Arts (Uniarts) was inaugurated on 1 January 2014 as part of the Swedish government’s on-going initiative to promote artistic research. The new university constitutes a merger of DOCH, the University of Dance and Circus, the University College of Opera, and the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts, creating a dynamic driving force in the advancement of artistic knowledge as well as a leading international artistic research milieu.
Loitering with Intent will inaugurate Uniarts‘ new premises at Linnégatan 87 in central Stockholm. This distinctive building will be the centre of the three-day event spanning three floors. The days will be framed through the artist collective Poste Restante and offer the participants a variety of presentation formats, including performances and exhibitions of research projects, installations focusing on the readings of JAR, workshops analysing contributions, reviewing the reviews, and reflecting on how the networks forming in AR could work for the community. There will be speed dating about getting on, in and with research.
Loitering with Intent foregrounds performative modes of exposing practice as research and the importance of face-to-face discussion between all present about how and why artists do research. We will look at how an art driven research education could work and introduce the first SAR Salon. Artists will present their research projects, and reflect on their experiences. Loitering with Intent thus understands itself as a Feast of Research, seeking to celebrate the fragile balance between sensory, situated and spoken forms of knowledge.
The event features parallel sessions and runs from 17.30 on 5 March to late 7 March.
